Overview

The line that carries the pressure

A drone hose is the high-pressure supply line that carries water from a ground pump unit to a drone-mounted cleaning lance. Because the aircraft lifts both the hose and the water inside it, mass per metre — not pressure rating alone — usually decides which diameter an operator can fly.

The drone does not do the work. The drone carries the nozzle to height. The ground system does the work.
01

Connect at the ground

The male inlet mates with the female outlet on the ground system — SkyJet, SkyControl, or your own pump unit.

02

Run and lift

Pay the hose out from the reel as the aircraft climbs. Every extra metre aloft is lifted mass.

03

Connect at the lance

The female outlet receives the male inlet of the lance. Seat both couplings before pressurising.

Why it matters

Built for vertical, water-filled service

Aramid, not textile

A single aramid braid carries 225 bar at 82 g/m — strength-to-weight that stays airborne for the full working height.

Payload you can calculate

Hose and water are published separately: 0.11 kg per metre suspended, water included. The lifted mass is a number, not an estimate.

Fixed connection polarity

Water in through a male fitting, out through a female one — the same convention across the range. The line cannot be assembled backwards.

Stainless steel wet path

Couplings and unions are stainless throughout, so the line introduces no metals into water fed from a reverse-osmosis stage.

Calculating suspended payload for SORA

Under specific-category operations, tethered and line-supplied drones require a precise calculation of airborne mass for flight safety evaluations:

Airborne mass formula
M_total = (M_hose_dry + M_water) × Length_suspended + M_lance_hardware

For a 100 m run of SkyHose 6 fully extended vertically, the suspended line mass is exactly 11.4 kg (8.2 kg hose + 3.2 kg water). Combined with the ~1 kg SkyLance M400, total suspended payload is ~12.4 kg, making it compliant with industrial heavy-lift platforms like the DJI Matrice 400.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight does the drone lift with the SkyHose 6?
Hose and water together come to 114 g per metre suspended — 82 g of hose and 32 g of water. At 50 m that is 5.7 kg, at 100 m 11.4 kg. These figures assume the full length hanging vertically and completely filled, which is the worst case; the catenary and reel support normally keep the airborne share lower. Add the lance and any drone-mounted hardware on top when sizing payload.
Which diameter should I choose?
Larger bore means lower pressure loss over a long run, but more lifted mass: at 100 m suspended, SkyHose 6 comes to 11.4 kg water-filled, SkyHose 8 to 14.2 kg, and SkyHose 10 to 17.3 kg. Start from the flow your ground system delivers and your aircraft’s payload capacity, then take the smallest bore that carries that flow.
What is the working pressure?
The hose is rated at 225 bar working pressure with a 900 bar burst pressure — a 4:1 safety factor. The assembled line is limited by whichever component is rated lowest, normally the quick-connect coupling; the applicable figure is stated on your delivery documentation.
Why aramid rather than textile braid?
Aramid carries a higher load per unit of mass, so a single braid reaches the same pressure class at a lower weight per metre than an equivalent textile-braided construction. On a hose the aircraft has to lift for its full working height, that difference goes straight into flight time and reachable altitude.
Which end connects to the ground system?
The male quick-connect is the inlet and connects to the ground system; the female quick-connect is the outlet and receives the lance. Water always enters through a male fitting and leaves through a female one, the same way a power socket works. The convention is fixed across the WasherDrone range.
Can two hoses be joined together?
Yes. With a male fitting at one end and a female at the other, two lengths connect directly. Each additional joint adds pressure loss, a potential leak point, and mass in the air, so plan the run rather than extending it in the field.
What lengths are available?
50 m and 100 m. Both lengths carry the same hose, the same fittings, and the same pressure rating.
What is the minimum bend radius?
100 mm. Reel drums should be at least 200 mm in diameter. Coiling tighter than this damages the reinforcement permanently and is not covered by wear.
Is the wet path suitable for purified water?
The couplings and unions are stainless steel throughout the wet path, so the assembly does not introduce metals into water fed from a reverse-osmosis stage.
Is the ground pump or the lance included?
No. The SkyHose is a supply line. The ground system and the drone-mounted lance are separate products.
