Operating Notes & Care

Bend Radius Management

Never bend tighter than 115 mm (4.6 in). Hose reel drums must have at least a 230 mm (9.1 in) diameter to preserve internal braid geometry.

Coupling Convention

Water enters via the male quick-connect at the ground reel and exits through the female quick-connect at the drone lance.

Pre-Flight Flushing

Purge air and pressurize the line before takeoff to verify fitting lock and eliminate water-hammer shocks during hover.

Storage & Inspection

Drain water after operations, coil on drum, and inspect polyurethane sheath for deep abrasion or chemical cuts.

These numbers assume the full length hanging vertically and completely filled. Remember to add your lance weight (~1 kg) to determine total payload.
Which diameter should I choose: 1/4 in, 5/16 in, or 3/8 in?
A larger bore produces significantly less friction pressure loss over long vertical runs, but holds more water weight. Start from your ground pump delivery (e.g. 15–30 L/min) and aircraft payload limit, then select the smallest bore that carries that flow volume efficiently. SkyHose 8 (5/16 in) is the ideal balance for medium to high-flow facade cleaning.
What is the working pressure rating?
The hose is rated for 200 bar (~2,900 PSI) working pressure with an 800 bar (~11,600 PSI) burst rating (4:1 safety factor). Quick-connect fittings are rated to 300 bar (4,350 PSI), ensuring the hose remains the only limiting factor.
Why aramid instead of traditional steel or textile braids?
Aramid fibers have an exceptionally high strength-to-weight ratio. A single aramid braid withstands 200 bar at a fraction of the weight of steel or textile, directly translating into longer flight times and higher operational ceilings for the drone.
Which end connects to the ground pump?
The male quick-connect is the inlet (ground station); the female quick-connect is the outlet (drone lance). This follows the universal fluid power convention across the WasherDrone product lineup.
Can multiple hoses be connected together?
Yes. Because each hose has a male fitting on one end and a female on the other, lengths couple directly without adaptors. However, we recommend using a single continuous coil (e.g. 100 m) to minimize leak points and intermediate fitting weight in the air.
Is the line compatible with pure reverse-osmosis (RO) water?
Yes. All wetted metal parts in the quick-connects and barbed inserts are 100% AISI 316 stainless steel, preventing ion leaching or corrosion when using deionised water.
